Day 3: Roncevalles to Zubiri

Miles day/total: 13.0/32.2
Weather: Cool start 70's with sun!

Good weather day. I left Roncevalles in the dark enjoying the cool weather, left early to beat the rain which never came. Stopped in a small delightful village about 3 km into the walk, Burgette, and had a fried egg sandwich on some sort of basque bread that was to die for and a Caffe Con Leche, also amazing. Super yummo way to fuel the tank for the days walk.

The first 10k of the walk were a delight; beautiful scenery & weather and pleasant terrain. In Viskarret I saved a fellow Pilgrim from making a wrong turn, it turns out six months of the year she lives in Venice, FL. The world is small.

Then came the last 10 km, an unrelenting downhill descent over rocky terrain into Zubiri. Thank God the weather was decent, had it been different it would been worse. It was a punishing descent,  legs and feet are howling - all the Pilgrims are feeling the same. I soaked my feet in the cold Pyrennes river flowing through Zubiri.....it felt amazing! Todays lesson, sometimes the smaller obstacles can be very deceiving.

Speaking of a small world,  the Hospitalero at the Albuerge I am staying at is from a town less than 29km from Borghorst, Germany my father's home town. We had a nice chat.

The day ended with a delightful meal of huevos patatas y lomo con Cervesa.  Yummo!

Tomorrow is a 21 km walk to Pamplona over more forgiving Terrain.  Weather forecast is for rain.
