Day 15: Burgos to Hornillos del Camino

Miles Day/Total/To Go: 13.0/203.9/314.3
Weather: Foggy Start, partly cloudy not so hot.

The rest day in Burgos was good it gave my Blisters a chance to do done needed healing and 2 nights of rest in a real bed theoretically should have set me up for a  relatively easy 21km walk to Hornillos with fairly easy terrain.

The day began fairly easily with a nice cool foggy morning. Jim from Michigan and I headed out of Burgos together at about 6:30am and helped each other eith the signage and successfully followed the Camino outside of the City Limits. Once outside of the city we collectively missed where the Camino departed from the main road. The upsides of today's detour are: 1) I had help,  2) there were no treacherous stream crossings or other dangerous activities, 3) no time was lost, Jim & I simply wound up following the paved road for about 5km until it rejoined the Camino. No harm, no foul but even with Jim's help I am about to get the name "wandering Bill".

Once we were back on track I caught up with two of my favorite Camino friends Paul & Nora from Toronto.  We stopped at a bar (very different thing in Spain) and I had a, Cafe con Leche and a Bocadillo with Serrano Ham which was the perfect fuel to power me through to the destination.

That's when the expected trajectory for the remainder of the day took an unexpected turn. Working my way up a relatively moderate slope I developed a fairly painful cramp in my left calf muscle which persisted all their way into Hornillos del Camino. After the rest day this was a surprise and a bit frustrating.  In Hornillos I was very touched by the concern of my fellow Pilgrims.  Kim from Oklahoma offered up both an electrolyte replacement powder as well as a analgesic creme, Nora also provided a creme...these did provide some relief but I think the key for tomorrow will be hydration and stretching. Hopefully the calf will be OK tomorrow as the last few km today were not comfortable.

The takeaway from today was community.  It was very touching how we all rallied around each other. I hope ti carry some of this spirit with ne going forward.
