Miles Day/Total/To Go: 12.6/216.5/298.4
Weather: Cold rain in the AM, partly cloudly & cool in the PM
I did not wander off the trail today!
The walk started in the dark and soon turned into a cold windy rain that stung the back of my calves but in a goodcrefreshung way. The terrain was moderate and at about the 10 km mark the Cafe con Leche and Tortilla Bocadillo in Hontantas was heavenly and fueled the remaining 10km in Castrojeriz perfectly. The weather also turned favorable and it was a pleasant walk into this quaint town with ruins of a prior monastary as well as an active convent.
I decided to dedicate todays effort to my wife Kathy. She came into my life when I was at a very low point and in no small way saved me from myself. I am ever grateful for the life we gave made together. Today's focus was on gratitude and in how sonetimes I could be a better partner than I have been. She is amazing and I am lucky beyond words.
Physically I am doing OK the blisters are largely healed and my feet are feeling good. The calf on my right leg continues to be a concern...its almost like the plantar tendons up the back of my leg are doing what they did on the bottoms of my feet a few months back. I am trying to be smart, stay hydrated and stretch often. I an hanging in there but feel this is goibg to require attention throughout the remainder of the Pilgrimage.
Last nights Albergue was rough, really rough. So Paul, Nora, Tina and I pooled our resources and secured a Private Pensione for about the sane cost as an Albergue. What luxuries we take for granted like real towels, a bed with sheets a private shower. El Veredero a Casa Rural is a magnificent treat.
Tonight Saturday vigil Mass at 7pm then dinner and a good night's sleep to do it all over again! Its been a blessed day!
