Great walk today in complete solitude, 14.7 miles of beautiful open space, singing birds, contemplation and silent prayer.
Today I spent some time thinking about and praying for my sister Karen. We were 16 months apart from growing up, so sibling rivalry was part of it. She had a strong will and independent streak. She suffered from a pretty bad incidents as a kid that I, was part of including getting locked in the dogs run and falling down stairs blindfolded. At the time it seemed like good fun but in hindsight I am thankful no serious injuries happened. Hopefully she's forgiven such child stupidity. Karen and, I shared the same interests and sets of friends through HS, we did a lot together and were close.
When I left for college in 1979 things changed and through no one's specific fault since then we have not had a lot if contact other than through family functions. My move to Florida 14 years ago and teh death of our Parents has only increased the lack of contact. Karen has been fortunate in that she's the only sibling that's not made any of the big life mistakes that shake you to the core and cause you to rebuild from nearly nothing. She's either been not taking the same risks or has been extremely lucky...whatever her secret is good for her. My prayers for her were for continued good fortune, God's presence in her life and greater healthy contact with her Floridian Siblings.
Today was a good day, looking forward to tomorrow's walk to Astorga. Treating myself to a hotel room!
